During a whole school science day, Year 5 were tasked with the ominous job of ensuring the Gingerbread mans safety during his maiden voyage through the air! The children had to work in pairs to design, create and test a parachute to transport their gingerbread man safely to Earth. We explored the relationship between gravity and air resistance and used this knowledge to create parachutes with a big enough surface area to create the required air resistance to land our gingerbread without breaking them. We were all successful, even when we dropped them from 3 metres! We had a fantastic science day and really enjoyed eating our gingerbread at the end!
