Today we took a group of 12 children from Year 3 and 4 to St Luke's High School to take part in a Health and Well-being Festival. The children learned all about different snacks they could eat which are really healthy, took part in an exercise circuit, learnt a bit about shiatsu which is a Japanese method to relax the body and played some change 4 Life games with Mr Upston. The children had a fantastic day and learned a lot!
On Sunday some of the Year 4, 5 and 6 children took part in the Exe Valley Challenge Walk. The Year 4 and 5 children had to walk 7 miles and the Year 6 children had to walk 10 miles! The day started pretty miserable in the rain but the children's enthusiasm levels were still high. In teams of 4 they set off on their walk using only a map to guide them. The aim was to reach each checkpoint in a given time so that they didn't get points deducted. All of the teams representing Pinhoe did amazingly well in working together to support each other along the route. The Year 4 girls worked so well together that they won the Junior Girls Competition and the Overall Competition Winners! Miss Brooks and Mr Perkins are so proud of everyone who took part - we look forward to regaining the trophies next year :)
On Tuesday, the Pinhoe swimming team went to Pyramids swimming pool to take part in the Exeter Schools Swimming Gala. The team was made up of 12 pupils from years 4, 5 and 6. The children competed in races of backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke and free style. Lots of the children made it through their heats into the final with Gemma winning the bronze medal for the year 4 girls backstroke and Charlie winning bronze for the year 6 boys at the same stroke. Miss Brooks and Mr Perkins were really proud with all of them for their amazing performances!
On Monday all of Year 5 and 6 went to a Primary Olympics Day at St Lukes. We represented South Africa. Throughout the day we took part in different activities - Football, Zumba, Relay Races and Designing a new logo for the Spirit of the Games Values. Lots of our children received medals for amazing effort and achievements and we came 2nd in the flag competition! Look out in the next couple of weeks as we will be receiving a visit from 'Crunchie the Mascot' for our prize!
On Wednesday, 4 different year groups made their way over to Exeter Arena to take part in an athletics festival which was organised by St Lukes. The children took part in a variety of activities involving different running, throwing and jumping events. All of the staff were very pleased with how hard the children worked and supported each other and I'm sure Pinhoe will be able to produce the next Usain Bolt or Jessica Ennis-Hill!
Thanks to all of the parents who helped make this event possible.
On Thursday 4th June 25 Year 5 children went to a rounders competition at St Lukes. We played against other local primary schools in many different matches throughout the afternoon. All of the children played extremely well and I was so proud of each and every one of them! Although we didn't make it through to the finals, they showed superb enthusiasm and determination, giving 100% across the competition. Well done Year 5's!
